Dietary fibre type influences protein and fat digestibility in dogs

Fibre can interfere with digestibility of fat by accelerating intestinal passage or increasing chyme viscosity. Lecithin is an important emulsifier which improve digestion. The study aims to determine if fibre solubility may apparent true total tract (ATTD; TTTD) macronutrients and energy adding lecithin could digestibility. Stool quality was evaluated regarding inclusion. Eighteen adult dogs fed 130 kcal metabolisable × BW kg0.75/day were assigned in a 3 2 factorial Design, two blocks 10 days complete six replications per treatment. Two factors tested, the source replacing starch inclusion lecithin. Six diets formulated 10% corn cellulose powder, beet pulp then all dressed poultry 1% soy + 9% fat. reduced ATTD dry matter, organic carbohydrates, energy. fat, crude protein, acid detergent (ADF), energy, TTTD decreased soluble diet, while ADF greater for diet. Soluble impairs absorption other nutrients, insoluble more related effects on dilution. not able restore digestibility, but improves when included.
